Very often limiting beliefs form during childhood. Consider this; a baby elephant is chained to a fence. It tries to break free but is too small and weak. The chain is too strong.

As the elephant grows up, it’s size and strength increases. As a full grown adult elephant, it could easily break free from the fence.

However, the elephant’s never been able to do it before so it doesn’t even try. The adult elephant settles for a life chained to a fence.

Where have you settled in your own life?

YOU are the creator of your dream life. Only YOU can make the changes necessary to find that joy. A great place to start is by banishing those limiting beliefs so you can believe in yourself and trust that you CAN create a joy-filled life.

As I mentioned earlier, our limiting beliefs develop in early childhood. Those beliefs about who you are and what you can do ‘limit’ or stop you from doing things you truly desire.

They are the excuses we’ve all learned to accept as the truth about why we can’t do or achieve things in life.

Does this sound like you?

  • I can’t earn a six-figure income because I don’t have the talent or knowledge.
  • I can’t hire a business team because I don’t make enough money yet.
  • I can’t go swimming on vacation because I still want to lose 30lbs.
  • I can’t talk to or flirt with that good looking person because I’m not looking my best today.
  • I can’t get straight As in school because I’m not smart.
  • I can’t go back to college because I’m too old.
  • I can’t start a business because I’m too young.

Notice how all these limiting beliefs begin with the words, I can’t. How often do you automatically start a sentence with the words “I can’t” out of sheer habit?

Whenever you start a sentence with “I can’t” you’re setting yourself up for automatic failure.

If you decide to try and accomplish any of those things, you’ll have that negative voice in the back of your head telling you ‘I can’t”. That voice will cause you to give up too soon or worse, not even try.

Instead, let’s turn those limiting beliefs into positive affirmations that encourage you to try even if you aren’t feeling it right away.

Just imagine if you could…

  • Release any negativity you have around money so you can make more of it without guilt or shame or anxiety.
  • Feel more confident asking for what you want and going after what you truly desire.
  • Love yourself deeply and watch as that love overflows into your relationships.
  • Feel ‘safe’ (and excited) about showing up and being seen.

That (and so much more!) is waiting for you on the other side of your limiting believes. That’s what radically transforming your beliefs can do.

So, let’s get started!

There are several different schools of thought when it comes to transforming limiting beliefs. My favorite, and the one that has worked for me is Brooke Castillo’s Model:

This means that each circumstance in your life has an accompanying thought. And in order for you to shift the thought so you create a different feeling (and therefore a different action and result), you need to IDENTIFY the thoughts about the circumstance.

You’ll need to change these thoughts in order to change your feelings, actions and results. When you change your thinking, it’s easier to take a different action and get a better result.

Here’s an exercise to help you get started IDENTIFYING your specific limiting beliefs. I highly recommend grabbing a journal or notebook so you can jot down notes or ah-ha moments.

These exercises can be enlightening and you’ll want to place to note all your revelations to review at a later time.

Exercise: Think of a situation in your life that you’re not happy with. A situation where your results are not in alignment with where you want to be, do or have. What area(s) of your life do you feel stuck or stagnant? Where have you not been able to make progress despite your best efforts?

For example, maybe you’re not happy with the amount of money you make.

Use the following fill-in-the-blank statement, “I can’t make more money because_______________”

What are the reasons you’re telling yourself you can’t make more money? This is the limiting belief or thought and it’s what’s stopping you from moving forward.

So let’s say you’re thinking, “I can’t make more money because I’m afraid I’ll lose it all and wind up more broke than I am now.” The ‘limiting belief’ is, “If I make more money, I’ll lose it.”

You can also take this a step further and identify WHERE this belief came from.

Ask yourself: “When was the FIRST TIME I felt this way or had this thought?”

The answer to this question can provide valuable insight into the fact that this belief is NOT a universal truth, but rather just a BELIEF that you get to change.

Repeat this exercise for every area of your life where you feel stuck or unhappy and continue to write them down in your journal.

Notice where you have patterns or thoughts steaming from childhood that no longer apply. Work to identify the thoughts around your circumstances and change them first to get to a different result.

Go thought this process daily to radically transform your limiting beliefs into your divine purpose; the easy way!
